How We Work

Traversing the unknown in an early-stage biotech is complicated. There are many pitfalls when trying to meet corporate and funding milestones.

If you focus on the wrong things early on, you won’t make it. It can feel like navigating a maze in the dark with no map. Our team has walked these paths before, so we know how to guide you to a successful product launch.

We engage customers in three stages: Build, Scale, and Transition.

Build

We start in the build stage with a kickoff to gain alignment and plan an execution strategy. From there, we create a roadmap of the remaining milestones to help your team navigate the unknown and begin to resource your team.

During this time there are urgent projects to be completed like prepping a slide deck for a board presentation, creating clinical development plan, or developing a medical launch strategy. Whatever the immediate need, we complement your existing team to bring projects to completion, keeping you on the right path

Scale

During the scale stage, we bring the right resources at the right time. Some projects require a specific skill set for three weeks, and some require multiple complementary skill sets for several months. Whatever your program and team needs, you can tap into an agile array of SSI colleagues for the road ahead.

Agile Skills and Resources

Many early-stage biotechs make the mistake of trying to hire full-time employees too early. The biotech job market is tight, which leads to prolonged recruiting with limited progress. It also takes 4-6 months before a new hire demonstrates real value to the organization because of onboarding, internal politics, and skill gaps.

Usually, there’s an urgent alpha project with a looming deadline at this stage. These include projects like prepping a slide deck for a board presentation, creating a clinical development plan, or developing a medical launch strategy. Whatever the immediate need, we complement your existing team to bring projects to completion, keeping you on the right path.

Instead, do more with less by adopting an Agile Skills and Resources model. Instead of solely hiring full-time employees, bring in the right skill set at the right time. This model de-risks the early stages of your company and provides immediate progress toward critical milestones.

Funding can be fickle. Full-time employees add significant overhead and increased risk to the business. Adopting an agile approach to resourcing enables you to scale skills up and down based on your current funding outlook.

The Agile Skills and Resources model is a lean, fast-paced approach to resourcing, where companies rely on strategic partners to cover current needs.
Our agile team delivers. We have full-time medical and business experts with specialized skills and relevant experience. You get a dedicated team that leverages our internal talent pool with the right skill set for each challenge just in time.

In practice, an agile approach means insourcing our expertise by rapidly utilizing embedded SSI team members that act in your best interest both within your organization and with external stakeholders. Our team members work with yours as a single unit to effectively and efficiently achieve your corporate milestones.

We operate as cultural chameleons, equipping your team with the tools and resources they need to operate at peak performance. This enables you to foster the organization you want to build by positioning your FTEs to be more successful and effective in their strengths. You can rely on our team to fill any skill or resource gaps.

There is a natural inflection point where you need fewer specialized resources and more long-term program management. This is the time to focus on hiring FTEs. Hiring the right team members is the key to sustainable success.

Transition

At this stage, we understand your organization, so we are prepared to support your next emerging challenge. Over time, we shift away from an embedded team that delivers against urgent demands, and instead, we support you as your organization evolves. Whether it’s due diligence on a new asset, new indication evaluation, BD partnering, or phasing out our team entirely, we’re working closely with you to support the changing needs of your organization.

Your specialized requirements ebb and flow, and so do the resources you need from our team.

No matter where you are on your journey, we are here as your partner.
